ADI-DRAVIDAR WELFARE
HISTORY OF THE DEAPARTMENT
The department was started in 1956 i.e. soon after the de facto transfer of this Territory in order to being the Adi-Dravidar populations on par with other communities socio economically. This department was bifurcated on 01-02-1980 into two, one exclusively for Adi-dravidar and the other for Social Welfare. The sub-office, Adi-Dravidar Welfare, Karaikal was started in 1981.
The scheduled caste population is 25, 717 in Karaikal as per 1991
census.

FUNCTIONS / OBJECTIVES
Financial assistance is rendered for construction of low
cost dwelling, performing marriages, purchase of agricultural
implements and to poor pregnant and lactating women.
Purchase, distribution and development of house sites.
Free distribution of dhoties and sarees.
Free supply of text books, uniforms and stationeries to
poor Adi-dravidar students.
Various awards, incentives,opportunity costs and
scholarships are given to poor Adi-dravidar students.
Community halls are constructed as part of development to Adi-dravidar colonies.
