HISTORY OF THE DEPARTMENT

        The Office of the Assistant Director of Industries, Karaikal was started on 5th February 1997 in the Industrial Estate, Kottucherry. In view of the rapid industrialisation of this region, the Administrative machinery was improvedby strengthening the set up to cater to the needs of the industries and also to implement the policy of the State Govt. to have a pollution free and eco friendly industrial environment.

FUNCTIONS / OBJECTIVES

        *  Exemption of C.S.T. & Local Sales Tax for a period of 10 years from the date of commencement of production for all industries. For S.S.I Units rationalised  percentage of 1% concessional rate of C.S.T is charged for another period of 9 years.

        *  Income tac holiday for five years for new Industries set up in This region which starts regular production on of after 01-04-93.

        *  One Rural Industrial Estate is maintained by this office which has provided all the infrastructural facilities to the entrepreneurs.
